Strong Girls 2021 

 

What:  

 

PAI4O - Healthy Living and Individual and Small Group Activities

(Grade 12 Open -  night school credit.)

 

A new pilot program launched in the City of Guelph to support female students who may need credits or be interested in the opportunity to earn an alternative phys.ed credit. Students will benefit from developing and building stress management techniques, resiliency  and leadership skills, while exploring the benefits of health and well-being through martial arts and the techniques of self-defense. An introduction to Tai Chi,  Karate (Goju Ryu), Judo/Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and strength and conditioning will be included in the program.   

 

Why - Strong Girls - a program targeted at young women who are interested in exploring their personal strength and gaining confidence in themselves through fitness. There will be a martial arts component as well as a focus on healthy active living, wellbeing, recovery methods, positive stress management and leadership skills. 

 

Who - Any students needing credits who would be interested in this type of program. We can accommodate up to 25 students.  Credit conflicts can be accommodated. Students can be from other school boards as well. Please note: all students who identify as female are welcome as participants. 

 

When - Wednesday March 24 -  May 19th  2021 from 4 - 7 pm (every Wednesday between these dates)

 

How - Available to any student interested in attending all 9 sessions with an additional online component. Sign up using "My Blueprint" or Guidance


 

Where - Tri-City Training (375 Waterloo Ave., Guelph -  in the Orange Hall) - Support for transportation can be provided (bus tickets).

 

Some areas that will be covered: 

  • Meditation and breathing techniques

  • Leadership skills 

  • Learn the tenants of integrity, loyalty, effort, respect and control 

  • First Aid 

  • Self-Defense and Introduction to a variety of Martial Arts

  • Healthy food choices

  • Introduction to strength and conditioning 

  • Goal Setting 

  • There will be an emphasis on developing written and oral expression and collaboration skills in the online component.
